A Headache-Free Day

Tobi has been having headaches now and then, but even that seems to be too often for a 9-year-old.

For awhile I've been convinced that the headaches might be related to diet. For me, a spoonful of peanut butter can head-off a headache.

So this morning I purposed to put more effort into making sure Tobi ate well throughout the day--and especially that he had protein first thing in the morning.

Breakfast:
Scrambled eggs with bacon bits
Pancakes
Lipton tea (diluted)

Lunch:
Indomie noodles (ramen)
Pineapple
Watermelon

Snack: Pistachios

Supper:
Chicken
Mashed potatoes & gravy
Watermelon

He didn't have a headache today. I think I'll stick with a similar plan for tomorrow.

Sounds like you're onto a good plan. Caffeine and sugar are big culprits too. We'll hope Tobi will remain headache free.

We went through this when Randy was in the first grade. I went through all of the "diet" things, and could never come up with a "trigger". The doctor figured they were migraines. He did seem to outgrow them after about a year, so that has been a relief. Hopefully Tobi can get over them as well. It is so difficult to watch your child be in so much pain.

I have struggled with headaches my entire life... stress is a huge trigger for me, as are flourenscent lights and loud noises. When I feel a "bad one" coming on, I usually need a shot of caffeine to head it off. It has been shown to do something with the blood vessels in the brain... seems to work for me, but it can trigger headaches in others. Getting glasses when I was about Tobi's age help diminish the frequency of my headaches... has he had his eyes checked recently?

Send him our love,
Melissa
