April Fools

I haven't done anything for April Fool's Day for years. Bayo has never liked the quaint tradition
so I've just dropped it.

Anyway, just because I don't have any April Fool's plans doesn't mean I should let my guard down. The boys and I got taken today in a major way.

I saw this email in my inbox this evening and quickly called the boys.

Hi folks,

As some of you may know, the species of Dachsund which we have on our compound is a distant relation of the duck-billed platypus, and occasionally such species have been known to lay eggs. Early this morning we were thrilled to see that 'Dot', one of our 14 dachshunds had laid a clutch of 4 rare speckled eggs. Since we already have so many dogs, we are looking for good homes for each of these very special puppies, which will hatch sometime over the next week. If you would like to take one (free of charge), or would just like to come and see them hatch, please either call or text Rachel or myself sometime today, so that we can arrange a suitable time.

Matthew and Rachel Harley

P.S. There is a very slim chance that one of them could be a duck-billed Dachshund.

Where was my common sense? I got the boys all excited, and we sent a text to Rachel. She texted back that all the eggs were gone before noon, but that surely they'd have some more next April 1st. I still didn't get it! I just thought, "Oh, how interesting that they were born on April 1st." Duh! Five seconds later, it hit me that we had been had! The boys really got a lesson in April foolery.

Now, I am not normally so gullible! And I've always respected the sensible Harleys; how would I know that DR. Harley could tell such a whopper? And let's face it, Dachshunds are a bit unusual, aren't they?

You know, if the day starts with a hedgehog, can't it end with a Dachshund laying eggs?

I can't believe you let the mischevious Harley's "get you"! They are so fun - their sense of adventure makes them great educators. I just wondered if you got the new quilting book from Sara Wescoat - I sent it back with her in January (I think). I hope it gave you all some new things to work on.

We love you all and pray for you daily!

Margaret
p.s. Thanks for the blog updates - they really make my day!

Did you know the word "gullible" is not in the dictionary?

This is a great story.
